Whew! School is out! If I play my cards right, I’ll get umpteen million things done in time for the school bell this fall.

There are all kinds of items to buy, tag, and collect. The trend in these parts is monograms and embroidery. I missed this boat last year. Children show up on the first day with backpacks, lunchboxes, you name it, embroidered with their names and emblazoned with pictures of their favorite animals or saying . Wait until the last minute, like I did last year, and you won’t be able to the find items *and* all of the embroidery places will be booked solid.

Every item including clothing must be labeled. That doesn’t sound like a whole lot until you realized you’ve spent a significant portion of your life writing the same thing over and over again. This year, I am searching for some affordable custom-printed name tags. I’ll get a set for Simone and a set for Nadia.  Maybe will have a sticker party shortly before school starts.

Finally, if I’ve learned anything from two years of public school, there is no item too silly to collect and set aside for later. There will be requests for toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, two-liter bottles and anything else that can easily be turned into an animal, gift, or learning activity.

So, yes, school is out. But Mom is still on assignment.
