DetailsI have a life coach. I won her expertise as part of the Passion Project, and she is helping me navigate the process of writing a book about raising biracial and multiracial children.

My coach suggested I read The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom. I was intrigued. I had not heard of the book and found it in the New Age section — just so you know. This post is a bit off topic, but I give myself permission to do that every now and then.

It’s a little book and can be read in one sitting. The book establishes all of the agreements we have made and then suggests our lives could change dramatically for the better. All we have to do is adopt The Four Agreements. The last few chapters give examples on how to do that.

The Four Agreements are:

  • Be Impeccable With Your Word
  • Don’t Take Anything Personally
  • Don’t Make Assumptions
  • Always Do Your Best

It’s so simple and to the point. Of course, it’s more difficult to do than it sounds. Still, I am willing to give it a try. I enjoyed reading the book so much I’m reading it again. I also plan to send it to several of my girlfriends for Christmas. Most of them don’t read the blog and those who do just got an early present. Enjoy!

Have you read The Four Agreements? If so, what did you think?

Rebecca Rodskog is a wise woman, so if she told you to read this book, I think I will read it too! I love the four agreements. It doesn’t sound easy, but living life with integrity isn’t. So glad you are writing your way through all of this, and so happy to have you as a part of She Writes.

Thank you for this gift, Monique. It is never too late for an old, cranky nana-writer to learn new tricks.
